Slashy Hero 1.0

If you haven't got your kicks this Halloween from watching flashy anime fight scenes, it's time to start slashing. Does slicing through multiple enemies at once as they burst into candy pieces sounds like fun?

In Slashy Hero, you will be controlling an unnamed character that has taken upon him/herself to storm the evil castle where all of the candy is being kept. Children will most likely applaud this initiative. Yet, the challenge is not so sweet as if first looked.

Violence and candy

The game is played in real time over a series of levels. You will need to reach the next portal while collecting as much candy as possible. The hero character has two movement options. He can either walk in certain direction (boring) or he can become invisible, invulnerable and quickly slash following a set path at tremendous speed. If it just so happens that enemies are in your slashy path, then you will kill them and get their candy. Killing all or certain types of enemies will unlock the portal for you to advance.

You will find chests here and there which contain equipment. These increase one or more of the three stats: maximum life, combat damage and speed. These can also be increased by paying candy, but the costs will increase after each such purchase.

The usefulness of upgrades will quickly become evident when tougher monsters are introduced (that seemingly need more holes done through them to actually die off).

Slashy Hero has a rogue-like feel. Your life level is very important, as the infrequent healing opportunities are also very weak. If the character dies you have the option of returning to the camp (where you can purchase stuff and retry the challenge) or revive by paying gems. Yes, the dreaded crypto-currency found its way here also. You may get revived once for free by watching an ad though.

Conclusion

Slashy Hero is a fun action game that does not need a lot of thinking. Reflexes will develop into techniques and finally you will realize that the only efficient way of movement is by slashing forward through anything (avoid the spikes though). It is a nicely themed and well executed casual game that is able to keep you occupied during post Hallows recovery time.
